YANGON, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Death toll from Friday's monsoon landslide had risen to 29 so far in Myanmar's Mon state, according to the latest figures released by the Myanmar Fire Services Department on Saturday.

"Seven more bodies were recovered this morning and about 47 injured were rescued so far," U Zaw Moe Aung, Paung township administrator told Xinhua.

It has been over 24 hours since mountainside of Ma-lat mountain collapsed due to the monsoon downpour, which buried residents, houses and vehicles in Paung township of Mon state at 7:00 a.m. local time on Friday.

"Search and rescue operations have been carried out to hunt for more survivors and retrieve bodies which were swamped by deluge of mud, rocks from the collapse," an official from the Fire Services Department said.

Caused by heavy monsoon rainfall, Paung, Mawlamyine, Mudon, Thanbyuzayat, Kyaikmaraw, Ye townships were flooded and some schools were temporarily closed in Paung township, Mon state since the early hours of Friday.

Meanwhile, Yangon-Mawlamyine road was reopened to accommodate transportation from late Friday.
