RAMALLAH, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) on Monday slammed Lebanese government's measures which could prevent Palestinian refugees from working in the country.

In an emailed press statement, Tayseer Khaled, executive committee member of the PLO, accused the Lebanese authority of targeting Palestinians in particular, under the pretext of fighting back unregistered immigrant workers, because it is ignoring their legal status as refugees in Lebanon.

Azzam al-Ahmad, another PLO official and member of Fatah Party's central council, on Monday revealed that contacts were held with a number of Lebanese officials to discuss the measures affecting work of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, according to his office.

Islamic Hamas movement also slammed the Lebanese measures and described them as "slow murder," urging the Lebanese government to reopen the closed and banned businesses belonging to Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

Palestinian refugees face difficult requirements to own and officially register a commercial enterprise at local authorities.

In 2010, Lebanon passed a law that grants Palestinians to work legally in some of the private sector.

However, Palestinian refugees in Lebanon are still unable to work in the public sector or in professions such as medicine, law or engineering.
