NEW DELHI, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Four border guards, a policeman and a civilian were wounded Wednesday after Naxals triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) blast targeting a truck carrying them in central Indian state of Chattisgarh, police said.

The vehicle was blown up at Bijapur Ghati in Bijapur district, about 415 km south of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.

"Today Naxals triggered an IED blast in Bijapur. Four BSF (Border Security Force) personnel, one policeman from DRG (District Reserve Group) were wounded in the blast, besides a civilian driving the truck," P Sundarraj, deputy inspector general, anti-Naxal operations told media. "The wounded were admitted in a hospital in Bijapur."

Reports said, following the blast an exchange of fire broke out between Naxals and government forces.

Last week five people including a paramilitary trooper were killed and two others wounded after militants blew the bus they were travelling on with a similar IED attack.

Currently the Naxalites are active in more than a third of India's districts across central and eastern India.
