BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- China will see the number of passengers on their return trips reach its peak on Oct. 7, the last day of the country's seven-day National Day holiday, official data showed.

Sunday is estimated to register some 15.2 million railway passenger trips, up from the 13.8 million trips seen on Saturday, with 814 additional trains to be added to the schedule, according to the China Railway Corporation.

China saw rapid growth of the number of passenger trips compared to a year earlier. The state-run railway operator's Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou bureaus recorded 1.24 million, 2.52 million, 1.91 million passenger trips, up 11.7 percent, 8.9 percent and 15.9 percent, respectively.

Some 1,722 flights are expected to take off or land at Beijing Capital International Airport on Sunday, with the passenger volume reaching 306,500.

During the holiday, both the number of flights and passengers edged up year on year in the capital airport. From Oct. 1 to 6, the airport's passenger volume amounted to 1.74 million, with 10,100 flights handled.
