YAOUNDE, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- 14 Cameroonian migrants trapped in an enclosed building in Kuwait have been rescued, a senior official said in a statement on Tuesday.

Felix Mbayu, minister delegate in the ministry of external relations of Cameroon, said the migrants "are now under the care of the Department of Social Affairs of Kuwait."

The minister's response came four days after an emotional video of a young Cameroonian woman in distress in Kuwait went viral on social media.

"We abandoned our families, brothers and sisters to come to Kuwait. We were told by our brothers that we will work and make a lot of money here. When we arrived, we were sold to families where we work like slaves," the young woman said.

"We don't sleep and we are beaten every day. We work like robots. We are somewhere called Shelter. We don't eat well. We want to go home. We have been imprisoned here for five months. We need laissez-passer to go home. Please help us," the woman was seen pleading in the video.

Mbayu said necessary measures have been taken to bring the Cameroonians back home safely.

"The Cameroonian authorities in collaboration with the authorities of Riyadh have issued laissez-passer to the entire group to permit them to travel back to Cameroon by Oct. 10," he said.
