ISTANBUL, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Turkey's two major presidential candidates Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his main rival Muharrem Ince staged their last rallies on Saturday in Istanbul, a day before the crucial presidential and parliamentary elections.

Under the new presidential government system, Turkey will start flying and achieve what others cannot imagine, said Turkish President Erdogan, candidate of the ruling Justice and Development Party, while addressing his followers.

"We hope to raise Turkey above the level of contemporary civilization," he said.

Erdogan also assured the crowd that they had taken all precautions to ensure security during the elections.

Ince, the candidate of the main opposition Republican People's Party, joined his supporters in a massive rally in Istanbul's Maltepe district.

He promised that the Syrian issue will be among his top priorities in foreign policy, and he will appoint an ambassador to Syria within 100 days.

Some 59 million of voters will cast their vote on Sunday in over 180,000 ballot boxes across the country.
