DUBAI, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday warned UAE citizens of travelling to the East African state of Ethiopia, the state news agency WAM reported.

The ministry asked Emirati nationals in the country "to avoid visiting Oromia, Amhara, and Harari regions in light of the current situation in the country."

Ethiopia imposed martial law on Friday for six months following a crippling strike last week in Ethiopia's central Oromia regional state and increasing reports of ethnic clashes across the country.

The UAE ministry has also urged Emiratis who are currently in Ethiopia to exercise caution and avoid any assemblies or demonstrations, calling on them to communicate with the UAE Embassy in Addis Ababa in case of emergency.

Earlier in the day, The African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat on Wednesday called for all Ethiopian stakeholders to refrain from acts that undermine peace and stability.
