JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Joao Fonseca claimed the Next Gen ATP Finals title in Jeddah on Sunday.
Fonseca, 18, delivered a perfect week to lift the trophy at the season-ending event for the best players aged 20 and under. He rallied past American Learner Tien 2-4, 4-3 (8), 4-0, 4-2 in the championship match at King Abdullah Sports City, becoming the second-youngest winner in the event's history.
Undefeated across five matches this week, Fonseca earned a tournament-record prize of 526,480 U.S. dollars.
"I was not playing my best at the beginning, I was too nervous. But after the second set, I think the third set was another Joao. I was much more aggressive going for the shots and he got a little bit tighter. In the fourth set I just did my best and got the win," said Fonseca. ■
